Lonicera japonica is a twining binein the family Caprifoliaceae that native to eastern Asia, commonly known as Japanese honeysuckle ,Chinese honeysuckle, white honeysuckle or simply honeysuckle. The flowers of honeysuckle are double-tongued, opening white and fading to yellow, and sweetly vanilla scented. The flower, seed, andleaves are used as traditional tea and an ingredient in traditional medicine system of several countries such as China, Korea and Vietnam.Lonicera japonica is taken orally for digestive disorders, enteritis, dysentery, urinary disorders, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, malignant tumours etc. Researches suggested Lonicera japonica possess phytochemical properties including anti-inflammatory, antioxidative, antibacterial and anticancer.
Honeysuckle contains a volatile oil (which includes linalool and jasmone) , cyclohexanhexol, flavonoids, inositol, saponin, tannin, salicylic acid and Chlorogenic acid.
